UPDATE: TRAIN DRIVERS DIRECTIVE: PUBLIC CONSULTATION

The public consultation concerning the train drivers directive is extended till the 10th of June.

We kindly invite you to let us know your comments. Following our discussion during our last RAG meeting in London on 24th of May, it may also be an opportunity to include your concerns for the B1 language requirement specifications, as the topics can be considered as linked. You find the link from the EC website with the call for consultation in the original message below.

According the latest information at our disposal, train drivers having a license application dated before the 1st of January 2016, can continue to drive without a B1, even after the 1st of July.

Concerning the call for consultation on itself, here is a message from the EU Commission on the Train Drivers Directive public consultation:

On various occasions we updated you about the ongoing evaluation of the Directive 2007/59/EC (the Train Drivers Directive), which started in November 2015. During the evaluation we would like to see what works well and what still has to be improved with regard to the certification of train drivers. One of the essential steps in every evaluation exercise is the public consultation. Hence, we would like to inform you that the public consultation on the evaluation of the Train Drivers Directive was launched on 3 March and will be open until 10 June 2016:  http://ec.europa.eu/transport/modes/rail/consultations/2016-train-drivers-certification_en.htm.
We kindly invite you to participate in this consultation and share with us your views on the certification scheme for train drivers.
Depending on the outcome of the evaluation, the revision of the Train Drivers Directive might follow. It would obviously start after the evaluation, i.e. tentatively in the 4th Quarter 2016, with the aim of having the proposal adopted by the Commission in the 4th Quarter 2017.
