Information from RFC North Sea - Med regarding the COVID-19 outbreak

The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus is impacting the way of life as most of us are used to and the effect is major. At this point in time there are no certainties when trying to asses when the outbreak will be under control or what the long-term effects will be.

RFC North Sea - Med wants to inform about the impacts to the flow of goods on rail as well as the day to day operations of the Rail Freight Corridor. RFC North Sea – Med is working together with its stakeholders and partners in accessing the situation and the potential impact for goods on railway.

This news article will be updated if and when there is new information that is relevant to the Rail Freight Corridor.

Overall status of the goods through the Corridor:

At the present moment we have no particular restrictions in place in any of the countries that RFC North Sea - Med runs through when examining the flow of goods. Operations are functioning as normal. Slight delays can occur due to health checks at border crossing points.

RFC North Sea - Med wants to assure that our offer and our products are still in place and valid at this moment. There is probably more capacity for goods on railway due to the current limitations in passenger traffic and we are aware of delays for other transport modes, at this moment transport of goods on railway is not affected. Combined transports is a valuable option under the current situation.

Operations of the Rail Freight Corridor team:

All members of the RFC North Sea - Med team are forced to ‘Home office’. Meetings are moved to video or telephone conferences. The function of the team is normal up till now.

General Information:

The European Commission published on the 16th of March Guidelines for border management measures to protect health and ensure the availability of goods and essential services. The guidelines describe the importance of the free circulation of goods within the European Union. RFC North Sea Med view the guidelines as important and is sharing them via the link below:
